logo design by Helmut Völter
The bauhaus lab logo is composed of the name set in Akzidenz Grotesk and an isometrical drawing of a cube, which continuosly varies and changes.
A complete drawing of the cube would consist of 14 lines, but only a changing selection of 7 lines is visible. There are 330 possible combinations to arrange these 7 lines.
The look of the drawing varies through permutation. At times the drawing visually evokes the three dimensionality of the cube. In other cases, it reminds one more of an abstract formation of lines. Again, in some other cases, it looks like a sign of a possibly unknown symbolic vocabulary.
The ongoing permutation of the logo is comparable to the experimental work in a laboratory: which new scenarios can be created, when the very same basic patterns are recombined again and again?
